Book store

The new Saline bookstore is here for a long time

While Four Corners has long had its restaurant basics, downtown Saline has more than just a diverse list of places to eat. One of the shops on the north side of Michigan Avenue is now occupied by fine print, a brand new independent bookstore lovingly brought to life by the husband and wife team of Lindsay and William Gibson.

“We want to provide a store that is inclusive and covers as wide a range of books as possible. We want a bookstore that feels like the community bookstore,” Bill Gibson said.

Located on the north side of Michigan Avenue between Dan’s and Saline Optometry, the interior of the bookstore is well-lit by floor-to-ceiling windows on its north and south sides. A seating area is available immediately to your left as you enter from Michigan Avenue. It’s a work in progress as the Gibsons add shelf after shelf to their space.

When asked what was the most surprising thing about starting a new bookstore, Lindsay Gibson said it was “how happy people are to have a bookstore, to come here and see what it looks like. It’s the most surprising and rewarding thing that’s happened so far.

The selection is a well-rounded mix that ranges from early readers to young adult and cutting-edge content. While there are plenty of classic works to choose from, the focus is decidedly on contemporary literature in just about every subject you can think of.

“I love having a bookstore in Saline. It was something I think we really needed. Bill and Lindsay are so kind and knowledgeable. It’s so nice to have an independent bookstore just around the corner,” said local business owner Jen McPherson, as she recently walked out of the store with a new book in hand.

Fine Print is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday to Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

“I love books. When I moved here, I wasn’t able to bring my entire library, so I donated a lot of books to my hometown library when I moved,” said Holli Andrews “I had no idea how beautiful a bookstore was. [they would bring]. They have the most recent titles. Titles people are talking about now – incredible authors and topics for all ages – from toddlers to classic books.
