Tubby & Coo’s Mid-City Bookstore has been through a lot in the past two years with the pandemic, moves and a broken pipe flooding the new building. But after operating largely online for the past two years, owner Candice Huber is opening her new storefront on Saturday.
The gay-owned bookstore’s new location is at 432 N. Anthony St. – 10 blocks from their original building. The store focuses on science fiction, fantasy, and LGBTQ books.
“I’m so excited that our customers can finally come in person on a regular basis and say hello,” Huber said in a press release.
The reopening coincides with Independent Bookstore Day, and to celebrate Tubby & Coo’s will be offering freebies, exclusive items and signature titles such as Eric Nguyen’s ‘Things We Lost to the Water’, VE Schwab’s ‘Gallant’ and “Sea” by Emily St. John Mandel. tranquility.
They are also teaming up with Blue Cypress Books, Baldwin & Co., Community Book Center, Garden District Book Shop, Octavia Books and Frenchmen Art & Books for an independent bookstore tour. If customers drop by all seven stores, they’ll have the chance to win $175 in bookstore gift certificates. There will also be a raffle for those who visit at least four stores.
The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday April 30.
