Several vehicles were damaged after a wall in the Book Market car park collapsed on Sunday. This paid car park belongs to Zila Parishad.
The damaged vehicles belonged to traders and include two Maruti Brezza cars, two Honda cars, a Duster, a Venue and a few others.
After the incident, Kotwali Police officials went to the scene to conduct an investigation and take the statement from the car owners.
Sahil Rana, who runs a mobile accessories store, said he recently bought a new Mahindra Thar and parked his vehicle at the paid parking lot of the book market. This afternoon he received a call from a friend informing him of the collapse of the wall. “I immediately reached the spot and found large rocks on my car. The front part of my vehicle was badly damaged and the loss could be in the hundreds of thousands,” he lamented.
Sahil said he was paying 100 rupees a day for parking and the Zila Parishad should make up for the loss. In fact, it was the responsibility of the Zila Parishad to keep the perimeter walls of the open car park in good condition, he added.
Another car owner, Sumit Sharma, said the walls were in poor condition and the department was asked to fix them, but no one paid attention.
