How much will the Qatar 2022 World Cup sticker book cost?

The Panini Fifa World Cup sticker book for Qatar 2022 is out, but how many stickers do you need and how much will it cost to fully complete it? Let HITC Sport offer you an overview…

For many fans young and old, filling the sticker book is part of the tradition of Fifa’s quadrennial event. But the days when a pack of four stickers cost supporters just 5p are over, with today’s sets of five stickers setting fans back a whopping 90p.

Sticker books have been associated with World Cups for over 50 years now, with the first being launched with Mexico in 1970. That year’s album made “I, I, need “one of the most said phrases whenever a tournament rolls around, as fans trade their way to a full squad.

Now, however, the price of completing the Panini sticker book will see supporters dig very deep if they want to have a full album. Fans will also have to sift through thousands of stickers before they have all of the players from Qatar’s 32 countries.

How many stickers do you need to complete the Qatar 2022 World Cup book?

Fans of the Panini albums will need to find 670 stickers to fully complete the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar book. But due to the number of duplicates fans are likely to get, they need to buy an average of 4,832 stickers before they can say they’re done.

That’s according to Paul Harper, a mathematician at Cardiff University, who discovered that the 2018 World Cup sticker book for the Russia tournament required almost 5,000 stickers, or 967 packets. This equated to almost £774 at the time, with packages going from 50p to 80p.

Without ever getting duplicates, which is almost impossible, it would have taken 137 packs of five stickers to complete the 2018 book. It would have cost £110, when the album contained 682 stickers – including coaches, stadiums and legends.

How much will it cost to complete the latest Panini sticker book?

Although Panini has reduced the number of stickers needed to complete the 2022 World Cup book, inflation has driven the price of packs for the latest album up to 90p. Now football finance expert Kieran Maguire estimates it would cost £884 to complete.

If the supporters become very, very, lucky and never packing a duplicate, they could – in theory – find all 670 stickers by buying and swapping Fifa’s latest album for £121. But to complete the 2022 World Cup sticker book without swapping would cost £884.

And the cost of completing the Panini sticker books is set to rise further, as Maguire told Sky News he estimates the price of the next World Cup album in 2026 could be as high as £1,500.

“When the World Cup expands to 48 teams in 2026 from 32 currently, the cost of filling an album will be at least £1,500 unless you use swaps,” he said. he explains. “Fortunately, there are many online exchange websites these days that help keep the cost down.”
